8/27/22 Saturday Yoga with Colleen: New Moon/New Intentions, Positive Mind Kundalini

Yoga and the moon

Here’s what’s on the menu for yoga this Saturday at Yoga on Yamhill:

9-10am: Kundalini Yoga for Positive Mind.
Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind, according to the Yoga Sutras. Kundalini Yoga recognizes three parts of the mind– Positive Mind, Negative Mind, and Neutral Mind. Positive Mind is expansive. With a strong Positive Mind, we are open to possibilities, optimistic, and playful. If the Positive Mind is weak, it can easily be overwhelmed by the Negative Mind. In this case, we may feel depressed or paralyzed. Or we may find ourselves quick to anger and annoyance. In this week’s class we’ll strengthen the Positive Mind with a special Kriya for this purpose. It includes a meditation, but if we have extra time we’ll do the Meditation for Absolutely Powerful Energy.

Let’s flow with nature’s cycles!

12-1:15pm: New Moon Vinyasa Flow! First in a series about the moon.
How cool is it that the moon’s cycles coincide with our class dates for the next month? To take advantage of this we’re practicing with the moon. In this first week, we’ll set intentions with the new moon. As the cycle continues, we’ll watch those seeds of intention grow. I encourage you to bring a notebook or journal where you can write down your discoveries from class. It is my hope that you finish this class (and indeed the entire series, if you can make it) with practical tools for goal setting and following through by mirroring nature’s cycles. Class will include pranayama, several flows including the moon salutations, and a moon meditation. At the end we will set intentions for this lunar cycle. You may choose to bring a notebook or diary to jot down your thoughts at that time.

Note: If you can’t make this class but would like to participate in this cycle, let me know. I can send you the class recording so you can keep up (and be kept up, as we say in Kundalini).

Sign up through YogaOnYamhill.com/schedule.
*Class is Hybrid– online or in person. You pick.

  • Contact me if sign up is wonky, I can get you in. Or just show up and we’ll take care of it after class. No worries.

I hope to see you on the mat this Saturday! It is a lovely time of year to be diving back into your practice. If it’s  been a while since you’ve stepped on the mat, I invite you to “start again” as my meditation teacher says. Showing up is the hardest part. Let go of any guilt or judgement and just enjoy!
